MANILA, Philippines -- Citing tuition hikes of up to 600 percent and yearly cuts in the budgets of state-run tertiary schools, militant organizations have called 2007 the “worst year for Philippine education.”
At the same time, they assailed officials of the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) for ignoring repeated requests for a dialogue on their concerns.
League of Filipino Students (LFS) national chair Vencer Crisostomo said “local student council leaders last week requested for a meeting anew with chair Romulo Neri and other CHEd officials but they refused.” Inquirer.net
